SALT Magazine was founded by Ashley, an emerging journalist currently located in Vancouver. She has a degree in writing, with a specialty in nonfiction writing and a minor in publishing. She is interested in all things lifestyle, including fashion, culture, food, art, events and more.
Although raised in Vancouver, she has lived elsewhere for the past several years. As she reclaims the city that shaped her childhood, she is left with an immense curiosity and desire to rediscover the city and help people — whether first-timers to the city or lifelong residents — rediscover all the city has to offer.
Some of Ashley's other published works can be found on The Guardian UK (feature on climate change in Brazil), The Martlet (feature on competitive Canadian cheerleading) and Her Campus x UVic.
Every story, recommendation, and guide comes from people who live here. We don't parachute in — we walk these streets, hike these trails, and eat at these restaurants every day.
We take our time. Our features are thoroughly researched, beautifully written, and designed to be worth your attention in a world of clickbait and hot takes.
SALT exists to celebrate the people, places, and culture that make Vancouver special. We amplify local voices and shine a light on the communities that define this city.
